Welcome to the NJTPA Local Preliminary Engineering (PE) Phase for the Bridge Street Bridge over the Passaic River in the City of Newark, Essex County and the Town of Harrison, Hudson County, New Jersey. The Counties of Essex and Hudson are conducting a study of the existing Bridge Street Bridge. The bridge is over 100 years old and has structural and functional limitations that don’t meet today’s design standards. The Counties are working with the municipalities in coordination with NJTPA and NJDOT to determine what bridge improvements are possible.

Community involvement is a vital part of the Local PE Phase, and we encourage all to follow, participate, and provide input on improvements since the bridge is an important transportation link for the local area and the region.
